PAT: Tuhituhi Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation assessments for Year 3-4 students (unlike PAT: Tuhituhi | Writing assessments for Year 5-10 students) are not currently sat online. Paper-based booklets for Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation are printed from within each assessment created in Assist, with completed student responses then scanned using unique QR codes for marking. To create Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation assessments:


  1. Click on Dashboard then select Tuhituhi Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation.
  2. Click the blue +Create Assessment button at the top right-hand side of that screen.
  3. Under the Type field select the preferred writing task (see the Tuhituhi Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation Teacher Guide and the image below for information on tasks and year level recommendations): 
  4. Add a Name for the assessment and select your term (Period) from the dropdown filter. Click Create.
  5. You will be returned to the Tuhituhi Te Pihinga | Writing Foundation assessment summary screen and your assessment/s will be displayed in a table.
  6. Click on the Manage Learners icon below the Actions column of the assessment table:
  7. Click on the blue Add Users button to view a list of all learners you have access to in NZCER Assist (Admins see ALL learners while Teachers will only see learners they are linked to by Classes).
  8. Use the filter options on the Add Users screen to select all learners within a specific class and/or year level. You can then select all displayed learners and add them in bulk to the assessment. TIP - at the bottom of that screen the display list can be extended from 15 learners (default view) up to 100 learners if required.
  9. Once learners are added to the assessment, click Back to return to the assessment. The selected learners will be displayed. NOTE - no tokens are available due to this assessment being paper-based.
